Update and Progression

So we have been discussing the different parts of the design plan recently in class and it has helped give me a better idea of where I am going with my design plan overall. Although I still have a lot of little questions, I plan on going to office hours or making an appointment to discuss all of my questions in further detail. Over spring break I plan to re-do my plan and correct and add to the draft that I have do thus far. Adding charts is my main focus and I believe help structure my format better. That is all I have thought about so far. Hopefully I will have another update over spring break and the progress I have made!

Project Brainstorming

Subject Matter Expert- Kayla Doss who is the Peer Educator Coordinator for REACH as well as Tim Howley who is in charge of the peer education programs at JMU and teaches the semester long class for new peers that have been accepted into the organization. Both of these people play a big role in REACH.(in the process of typing a short bio for them)

Target Audience- The new peers of the organization that have just recently been accepted into this organization (REACH) are the target audience. The next step for them is to take a class through JMU to become a nationally certified peer educator.

Model of instructional design- Kemp,Morrison, And Ross's Instructional Design Plan (P 9). I talked with Dr. Estes and this model seems to be the best fit for what I'm trying to accomplish from this assignment. There is not a needs analysis circle in this design plan, however I have already have a needs analysis from the start that Kayla had in mind. I am going to use the steps described to evaluate my plan and overall process.

Perspectives on learning
social constructivism- where this perspective is based off how the new peers interact in the classroom setting and then again when they are facilitating the programs with new and old peers. The construction of a better understanding and their ability to create their own meanings as well as new ones is a crucial part of this process.

Behaviorism- the whole process of how long the class will be for new peers, their comfort level with new and old peers and their confidence in being able to facilitate a program on their own are all behaviors that are apart of this.

What strategy will I use to conduct a needs analysis? What products will be created to show I have conducted a full needs analysis? (40-55)

I am considering using the Rossett process to conduct a more in depth needs analysis. Hopefully I will be able to create a similar chart with the information included and able to go through all of the steps in the process. ((still not sure which model would be best)) would love feedback. I feel a little lost as to which one I would benefit from the most.

What approach will I use to conduct a task analysis? What products will be created to show that I have conducted a full task analysis? (P57-69)

I really like Jonassen, Hannum, and Tessmer on pg 58. I like that there are a lot of steps because it requires a detailed breakdown and I feel that I can follow the steps easily and it will help me with my over all task analysis. The product I hope to create from this is a shorter class that can be taught for new peers to take to become a nationally certified peer educator. So that they can still get the same information but in a smaller amount of time.

Informed Design Plan

So tonight we had a REACH meeting. I got a change to talk with Kayla about the parts of the assignment that I plan to cover with this project. I still feel like I have a lot of questions and need more direction before the draft is due. I did receive the email today that said bring the notes to class for further discussion. I am looking forward to that and hoping I will grasp a better understanding of the overall concept Dr. Estes is looking for (the attachment from the email was helpful). I also am planning on meeting with Kayla this upcoming Monday as well to ask further questions and gather the last bit of information needed to complete this draft!
