Subject Matter Expert- Kayla Doss who is the Peer Educator Coordinator for REACH as well as Tim Howley who is in charge of the peer education programs at JMU and teaches the semester long class for new peers that have been accepted into the organization. Both of these people play a big role in REACH.(in the process of typing a short bio for them)
Target Audience- The new peers of the organization that have just recently been accepted into this organization (REACH) are the target audience. The next step for them is to take a class through JMU to become a nationally certified peer educator.
Model of instructional design- Kemp,Morrison, And Ross's Instructional Design Plan (P 9). I talked with Dr. Estes and this model seems to be the best fit for what I'm trying to accomplish from this assignment. There is not a needs analysis circle in this design plan, however I have already have a needs analysis from the start that Kayla had in mind. I am going to use the steps described to evaluate my plan and overall process.
Perspectives on learning
social constructivism- where this perspective is based off how the new peers interact in the classroom setting and then again when they are facilitating the programs with new and old peers. The construction of a better understanding and their ability to create their own meanings as well as new ones is a crucial part of this process.
Behaviorism- the whole process of how long the class will be for new peers, their comfort level with new and old peers and their confidence in being able to facilitate a program on their own are all behaviors that are apart of this.
What strategy will I use to conduct a needs analysis? What products will be created to show I have conducted a full needs analysis? (40-55)
I am considering using the Rossett process to conduct a more in depth needs analysis. Hopefully I will be able to create a similar chart with the information included and able to go through all of the steps in the process. ((still not sure which model would be best)) would love feedback. I feel a little lost as to which one I would benefit from the most.
What approach will I use to conduct a task analysis? What products will be created to show that I have conducted a full task analysis? (P57-69)
I really like Jonassen, Hannum, and Tessmer on pg 58. I like that there are a lot of steps because it requires a detailed breakdown and I feel that I can follow the steps easily and it will help me with my over all task analysis. The product I hope to create from this is a shorter class that can be taught for new peers to take to become a nationally certified peer educator. So that they can still get the same information but in a smaller amount of time.
Kelly, Thanks for your insights in this activity.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see a bio of your SMEs. Tell me all about them – age, gender, race, prior experience, biases, etc.
Tell me more about the target audience. Are they students? What is a typical demographic profile? Why are they interested in this program? More of this will come in the learner analysis. What does the national certification allow?
Why did you pick this instructional design model over others? Tell why it is a better fit than other models, either for you and/or your project idea.
I like your social constructivist perspective on learning for this particular project. Explain how comfort level and confidence relate to a change in behavior.
You asked about needs analysis/assessment models. Have you considered the Smith and Ragan Innovation Model on p. 50? Your project involves a rather big change in the current system.
When speaking of “products” at this stage, I am referring to deliverables like reports, profiles, charts, etc. What products will you add to your design plan?
